Projects

Here’s the link for the full story behind this 2019 project

This survey has now closed, but you can read below more information about why we worked with The Swallows on this important project – “Embracing Carers” The Carer Experience Survey ….

Are you a carer for someone who has cancer?

This survey is for all members of the public (over the age of 18) in UK who have been, or are currently, a carer for someone who has any type of cancer.

The questions ask about the types of carer roles and activities you may have undertaken.

And it asks you to let us know in what ways you feel being a carer impacted on you – including your own physical health, mental and emotional wellbeing etc.

The results may show that there are different or additional pressures on carers for patients with certain types of cancer.

Your responses will help us to develop better information resources and services to help people who are carers for people with cancer in the future.

This survey should take a maximum of 20 minutes for you to complete. Ethics approval was granted by UCLan (STEMH 1005).

You can contact Wendy for more detailed information about the project or to request copies of this poster.

Read the Participant Information sheet below. Thank you for your support.

2018 PROJECTS

In 2018 we worked together with Chris Curtis (Director of Swallows Head and Neck Cancer charity and worldwide Patient Ambassador) on a research project that achieved two prestigious awards – one national and one international.

The survey generated over 100 responses from the United States, Canada, Australia, India, mainland Europe and United Kingdom.

The research question was driven by patient priorities and the findings highlight implications for international healthcare services and research.

This work demonstrates active collaborative partnership working between academic and 3rd sector links.

The project was an unfunded online survey – all dissemination expenses were met by the charity.

The work additionally delivered research capacity building as the project included two Erasmus Trainees on a research internship from University of Torino to work with Dr Hazel Roddam at UCLan for nine weeks.

Our publications from this project include:

    • Public Health England Cancer Data and Outcomes Conference: University of Manchester (20 June, 2018) – Living with mouth symptoms after treatment for head and neck cancer: a patient designed survey.
